Microfilm & Microfiche
Scanning
Many companies
hold large document archives on microfilm or microfiche,
and often find it cumbersome and problematic to
locate and view the documents. Images-on-Line, based in Crawley West Sussex,
can scan the microfilms to create a digital
library with all of the advantages of storing
documents electronically. The scanned document images
can then be indexed, and treated in the same way
as scanned paper documents, with document retrieval software on CD,
or as images to be used in your existing
Electronic Document Management (EDM) system.
Standard A4 office
documents are usually stored on 16mm roll
film, either in cartridges, jackets, or
microfiche. Images-on-Line utilise high quality
equipment to handle each different type of
microfilm and microfiche to ensure that the scanned image is
always of the highest quality achievable.
Many companies
have generated large microfilm or microfiche document archives over
time and in many cases it would be impractical
to digitise the entire archive. In these
instances Images-on-Line would suggest our
storage facility combined with the on-demand
service to save the need for maintaining a
microfilm facility in-house.
Images-on-Line can
also scan 35mm roll film and aperture cards,
which are most frequently used to store
microfilmed drawings.
If you already have a microfilm
or microfiche library (whether roll film, 35mm aperture cards,
or jackets) Images-on-Line is able to scan and digitise it to give all the
benefits of scanned images to the end user. This
saves the customer the cost of maintaining a
microfilm-based or microfiche-based technology.
Images-on-Line can supply a full
range of machines, from the simple microfilm reader to the
latest generation of digital printers, along
with consumables for any microfilm system
currently on the market.

Our advanced production software
provides a number of methods to enhance the appearance of the
original. Deskew, straightens the image, Despeckle, removes random noise (specs)
from the original image, Character Enhancement, improves
the quality of scanned images, particularly beneficial for
handwriting, signatures and dot matrix type fonts on multi-part
documents.
Files can
also be enhanced digitally and output to microfilm,
which is especially useful
if your records are mission critical and or require indefinite
long term low cost storage, with the full assurance that
they will be able to retrieve and view the data long into the future.
Microfilm
Scan-on-demand Facility
For the cost effective
microfilm scan-on-demand
facility, microfilms requested by e-mail, fax or
telephone by registered users, are manually retrieved
from storage, scanned and made available via a secure
password protected Internet connection. From your PC you
are then able to view, manipulate, print, fax, export
and e-mail 24 hours per day.
